Paint Party Friday: Week 46 Check In

Welcome to Week 46 of Paint Party Friday!! What a party last week - over 90 painters! Wow!! It is great to have you new PPFers join us and wonderful to see so many people coming back each and every week. And the art! And the talent! Fabulous!!!

For new paint players, (and any of you who have previous asked but who slipped through our cracks or crevasses or chasms....) if you would like to be listed on the left sidebar of Paint Players, please send us an email (on right sidebar) or ask in the comments and we will try to be sure to make that happen. (And if we haven't by next week, a friendly reminder might be necessary...)

It is also great to see how adventurous and open to experimentation you all are - our poll showed that the majority of you are willing to try any shape of canvas. Rectangles are otherwise the most popular choice. Thinking about shapes... we started to wonder about what shape paint brushes you like best?

A couple of little housekeeping notes on comments. Internet Explorer and Blogger seem to be spatting again and causing some of you to have problems leaving comments. Switching your browser to Chrome seems to alleviate these issues. We were using Chrome so we haven't noticed the problems. Maybe using other browsers might also help but we haven't tried.

Also Blogger seems to have changed their captcha/word verification on some design layouts so you have to scroll down through a window to find the darn word. And those words seem to get  longer every day! The other word verification system captcha we find almost impossible to read - and we ARE humans! Most PPFers love commenting and everyone really loves receiving your comments. With a group this big, anything that slows us done as we "work the room" makes it less likely for people to stop and chat. We don't use captcha or word verification and have never had any problems so we think it worth turning off. However, we all want to feel secure. The "comment moderation" settings are another way to protect yourself by looking at and approving your comments before they are published. EVA uses them, Kristin and PPF don't. PPF has had almost no spam, maybe none. (Thank you!) EVA noticed that each time she turns it off, some spam seems to sneek through. Something to consider to make commenting easier for us all?

Please make sure to use your post URL address NOT your blog home page URL address as there are many late visitors who get confused as to which post is for PPF when they arrive (after Friday) at your website. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Linky, an explanation of how this tool works can be found on Week 1 and Week 2 Check-Ins.

Have a marvelous time at this week's Paint Party!

  4. I'm having trouble commenting on the Blogger blogs with Firefox, too. Not all of them, but many of them. I don't seem to have any trouble with the ones that let me comment under my Name & URL but the ones I have to use OpenID for are giving me trouble. I won't be switching to Chrome so I hope blogger shapes up soon! I'll comment on the ones that I can.

  5. I use flats and liners. In fact I need to get out to the studio to get my brushes in order. Thanks for hosting, have a great weekend and Happy PPF To All!

  9. I turned word verification off a long time ago it certainly makes commenting a lot quicker and easier. I just adore all brushes, both using them and looking at them, how sad am I........lol

  10. Thank you Kristin and Eva for hosting this great party! <3
I suppose my favorite brush is Adobe Illustrator's Brush Tool, size 0,03, or thereabouts... ;)
At the moment I also comment to one's I can, but I try to check all the entries. Hope this Blogger bug goes away soon and commenting will be fast and easy!

  11. I love ALL kinds of brushes! Sometimes I work with super tiny, but then I go with big fat brushes... I like to go back and forth depending on size of painting and style I'm going at the moment :o)
    Thanks for this awesome party!

  12. i know what you mean about word verification words seeming to get longer and captcha being unreadable! and i learned what a filbert brush is (had to google it!) happy PPF!

  15. Another problem with Blogspot this week and last week is that the OpenID no longer works if the blogger is using word verification. I have put in as many as 6, knowing they were correct, and it didn't work until I just filled in my name and URL. Some of the blogs don't allow anonymous or name comments, making it almost impossible to comment.

  16. The brushes are important, each part of a work requires a size and a shape distint from brush, sometimes even the fingers. Saludos y happy PPF

  17. Wow this is so serendipitous that you mentioned turning off the capcha word thing. I was just thinking of that last week how it takes me a whole week to get through all the entries ( thats why I only do PPF every other week, lol!) and how that might speed things up. I've even considered only commenting on the sites that don't require the word but then I see something really spectacular and just have to comment!!! I never knew we could even turn it off till a friend on another blog requested that on another party we had. I have turned mine off and never gotten any spam! OK, see you all next week, this is my week off, although I am peeking of course, hee, hee! Deb

  19. Happy PPF! It is 4 AM and I have my painting posted. As for blogger and google they are always having trouble and making changes that create problems for us. I do use work verification and blocked the anonymous comments. I was getting some real sick comments from who knows who. Since I put the word verification in place just nice comments come in. :)
Have a great PPF and a wonderful weekend

  25. Yeah! I am not #57 this week! I must confess, I am still preparing for my opening reception at my two-artist show in Crystal Lake,IL. The painting I am entering in PPF is from the summer. I am about two-thirds of the way done with labeling and inventory. I have to order business cards from Staples today, etc., etc. As far as brushes, I have started using whatever brush will give me the stroke and fill the area best. I originally used flat and angle brushes in my acrylic work. Then in oil I started with all filberts. But now I find I also use, flat, round and very small brushes as well as actual house painter type brushes.

  27. When it comes to brushes I use all sizes and shapes. It depends on what part of the painting I'm working on. I also use my fingers and sponges.
Ps. I always love the images you post here each week!

  35. I am always saddened when I go to a new person's blog and try to comment and their blogger has set up a gauntlet for me to try to wade through. then i get to the signature part, and they have it set to "google address only" and hey, what if I don't have a google address? A lot of times, I just don't leave a comment. I am back from Hawaii, got in late last night; so I am sharing paintings from my travel journal with you this time.
Thanks for doing this! I really look forward to PPF and it helps inspire me to paint.

  36. I'm game for trying all the brushes you artists have mentioned here! :) I really look forward to Fridays these days. Thanks Eva and Kristin.

  37. Mimi, I feel the same way. I had a terrible time trying to leave comments last week on every blogger site. I saw many paintings I couldn't even comment on. :( I hope it goes better this time! I felt so bad!

  38. Love the photo of those brushes. I use all sorts of brushes for different sorts (and parts) of paintings.

Thanks, again, for hosting Eva and Kristin!

  51. Painting is the art of creating pictures by applying color to a face. Also Painting is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a surface. I get pleasure the information you are providing in your website about painting. Thanks
