Paint Party Friday: Week 45 Check-In


Welcome to Week 45 of Paint Party Friday! 2012 is really off to an awesome painting and partying start!

In last week's fun poll, we learned that most of us are not very superstitious, at least not about Friday the 13th! We heard about superstitions new to us and strange things that happen to some of you. (We really want to watch Robin walking down the street when she is angry to see the streetlights blow out!)

In last week's links, Netty posted her new paintings on triangular canvases given to her by Valerie-Jael. Triangular! That was the first time we had seen triangular canvases. And it made us wonder - what shape do you prefer to paint on? And bonus points (haha) for telling us in the comments about the strangest shape you've painted on! ;)

    I confess I haven't painted on any strange shapes. Either squares, rectangles or once, a circle.
    I am posting from Hawaii today, as we have escaped the bitter cold and nasty unusual weather in Seattle in the nick of time.

    Usually paint on paper, but like deep sided canvases of any type... strangest shape was my other half's toenails while he slept just before he went on a boys trip.... and no he didn't notice he had bright pink nails until he was in the locker room at the golf club.... one of my greatest painting moments.... so I am going to say favourite is toe nail shaped...xx

    Some years ago a few friends and I made a group for circles. It was the size of CDs and it was fun! But I like to paint in more traditional shapes, like squares and rectangles :o)

    The strangest thing I painted on was probably a window many years ago when I worked in Tunisia and painted a Christmas scene on a hotel window over the festive period! My next surface is wood - I love how paint looks over the grooves on the surface!

    What a great question! To tell ya the truth my watercolor paper has always come already cut, but now you've given me inspiration to try circles ovals and triangles. I have painted on things like rocks, boxes, and driftwood too.Happy PPF everyone!

    Right now I have to run! I am preparing by painting edges black, painting inserts blacks, gluing, all together and wiring for hanging,about 35 of my paintings for an exhibition on the 3rd of February. The reason why I am doing edges and inserts is because I bought floater frames but my paintings are on panels and the floaters are for 3/4 inch deep canvases! my mistake! A lot of extra work. I have to deliver and hang on Jan. 30 & 31. Only one other artist is in the show with me, so the pressure is on. I have about 60 paintings in the show all together!

    I forgot, I have 4 triangle canvases, some ovals, and some octagons. But this year I have mainly been painting on
    6x6 or 8x8 inch Raymar canvas panels.

    I had the bright idea to try painting family portraits for all of my siblings one Christmas when I was in high school, does slightly bumpy, oval count as a shape? If so that was mine.

    I just started using cradled birch painting panels for my torn paper portraits and I find them much more suitable to my medium! Plus they are nice deep and the sides look beautiful painted. A little late to the party this morning since we are in the midst of an ice storm and power and internet have been intermittent. Looking forward to making the rounds though even if I have to do it with my iphone :)

    I don't really paint on anything too crazy and not really any crazy shapes. Usually just rectangular, though I do like square canvases and paper.

    I'd like to try a triangle! Before Christmas I painted a lot on paper mache stars. I want to try a circle shape next. Most times, though, I'm plain square. Ha!

    It would be strange to use a triangle board but you could make an amazing Hexagonal design by pointing them all inward. THAT would be cool.

    Her triangular canvas paintings look fantastic! Generally my fave shape is the standard, I paint on rectangular canvases. Sometimes though I get a hankering for square or oval, but usually it's just rectangles :).
