Welcome to the Friday the 13th edition/Week 44 of Paint Party Friday! It's wonderful to see the new year start with a number of new painters joining us for the first time! Welcome! And Welcome back to everyone who has been here before - great to see so many familiar faces already in 2012.
Wow! We were blown away by some of your answers to last week's poll. 11 (Eleven!) of you want to paint a painting a week! Quoting Oprah - "You go girls!" - PPF is here to help keep you accountable for your efforts. Many others want to paint at least one painting a month. And most of us just want to paint! (Yay!!!)
Since PPF falls on Friday the 13th this week, we thought we'd have a fun poll and ask about your superstitions - if you have any!
We hope you have a great time at the party and that Friday the 13th brings you only GOOD LUCK!
Happy Paint Party Friday everyone! My mother was born on the Friday 13th and always insists that it is a lucky day. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Friday the 13th, but then, I was always a strange sort of child...
ReplyDeleteMy step-mom, when she dropped spoons or fork, would step on them and re-wash them She used to say that if you drop a spoon, a lady guest would arrive, if a fork, then a man. Of course I don't remember it if ever happened but to this day I always step on forks and spoons, tee hee. I also knock on wood, sometimes I use my husbands head, tee hee. Just kidding. Happy PPF everyone. Take care.
ReplyDeleteBack for my second week - had so much fun last time that I couldn't resist! Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.

I don't think the 13th is bad luck and I don't know if I believe in luck...but I am kind of weirded out by saying things that I DON'T want to happen...it goes back to the whole idea of what you focus on expands and I don't want focus on the bad stuff.
ReplyDeleteAm not superstitious at all
ReplyDeleteNew shoes on the table...

cutting fingernails, as in...
Monday for health, Tuesday for Wealth, Wednesdays the best day of all, Thursday for loses, Friday for crosses & Sunday is no good at all...

ReplyDeleteWhen I was on the Big Island of Hawaii for my residency, I learned the old legend that taking lava rocks from Hawaii results in being followed by bad luck. I think this is a wonderful superstition because it emphasizes respectomg nature. There's a whole website dedicated to this superstition if you want to check it out http://www.volcanogallery.com/lavarock.htm
ReplyDeleteThat's why on my blog I always emphasize that I purchased the olivine in my paintings. :)
There was a very similar superstition at Petrified Forest National Park. A horrible curse is said to befall anyone who removes a piece of petrified wood from inside the Park. Lucky, there are gift shops just outside the Park, willing to sell you a chunk, a stump, or a whole log!
Happy PPF!!

I am not superstitious at all, I trust in life and I am very optimistic!!
ReplyDeleteI am not superstitious, not about Friday the 13th, at least! ;)

Happy PPF on 13th...jajaja. Xo
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF everyone :)
ReplyDeleteI actually consider the 13th lucky for me, a few good things have happened on the 13th.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of myself as being very superstitious, but now that I took the poll I realized that... yeah, I kind of, sort of am. Oh well, have a Lucky Friday the 13th!!!
ReplyDeleteNot superstitious, then again why take chances! I did eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day
ReplyDeletethanks PPF gals Eva and Kristin ! Happy Friday the 13th also I hope everyone has nothing but a great great day and no bad things happen to anyone ! Crossing my fingers and toes. and knocking on wood just in case..I always say Cover all the bases.

I don't think of myself as superstitious but I do most of those! Even though my mother died 8+ years ago, when I walk down the street I still think "step on a crack break your mother's back"!
ReplyDeleteMostly I am superstitious about 3s. Bad things happening in 3s. And 2012 sure started that way. Big TV died, someone smashed my daughter's car window and stole her iPod, then the fridge died. Now I think the bad luck spell is over. Phew! I even scheduled the new fridge delivery today knowing it was Friday the 13th!
@Art2cee2 - Black eyed peas on New Years?
@Sunshineshelle - Cutting fingernails?
@Gloria - stepping on forks and spoons?
All new ones to me!
My Mom would only leave a house by the door she came in...
Friday the 13 is one of my favorite days. It is very good luck for me. Yes I would say I am superstitous. The one thing I make sure I do is to clean my house, cupboards and all on New Years Eve, that way you will have a clean house all year round.

I always tell myself that I am not superstitious, but I am "aware" of several of the superstitions mentioned today. I always pick up pennies if I see them, I try not to break my mothers back if I see a crack when I am walking, and I try never to assume that I am going to win something, because I might jinx myself. Happy PPF! Have a good and creative week.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to be here again this week! Thank you so much Kristin and Eva for hosting PPF. Since I've started participating, I find it so motivating. By the way, I am not superstitious at all.
ReplyDeleteI always knock on wood and when I can't find would I use my head... I don't know why. I guess it's because my Mom always did.. Thanks for the great party!!
ReplyDelete~Linda
Nah, I'm not really superstitious! Well not really... ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is a test...
ReplyDeleteIf you can read this - Hooray!!!
Happy PPF Everyone - Thank you all for continuing to make this such a fun group! Wheee!

I don't think I'm superstitious... but I do things like knocking on wood out of habit-- maybe there's a bit of superstition thrown in.
ReplyDeleteAs a kid, I loved things like peacock feathers and opals (shiny and irridescent). My mom told me they are both bad luck. Hmmm...
I'm glad to be back this week! HAPPY Friday the 13th!
I am not really superstitious. Or I try not to be! Happy PPF everyone! :)
ReplyDeleteYes I am superstitious. Can't help it. Will be very careful today! ;) Happy PPF everybody!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not really very superstitious but I still knock wood which is probably more of a habit than anything else. I do however believe that what we say aloud, put out in the Universe so to speak is more likely to happen. I always tell my Son define what you really want then say it aloud. Also, it sounds kind of crazy but when my emotions are very high, I blow street lights when I walk under them 9 times out of 10, my family thinks it's hilarious and ask me to walk ahead of them at night so they can watch it happen...LOL.
ReplyDeleteHappy Paint Party Friday, everyone! How I do love this weekly soiree! (Raises coffee cup to you all) Off to see some wonderful art on your blogs!
ReplyDeleteCharlie, www.barnumswinter.com
I used to be superstitious but not any more. I still wouldn't walk under a ladder though but just in case a bucket of water or paint fell on me!
ReplyDeleteI'm here visiting and clicking. Having coffee too.
ReplyDeleteFridays the 13th are my lucky days!!!!
ReplyDeletewish you all a happy 13th!
My comment didn't take!! Happpy PPF I am not superstitious. I LOVE black cats. If i see one, I feel lucky!
DeleteFirstly I must apologise for the double link. Blogger was doing strange things this morning and I have no idea how that happened?! Anyway, thanks to those who have been to both my posts and left a comment - most kind.
ReplyDeleteNext up I must share that when I first saw the picture you are using to illustrate your post today I thought it was some sort of internal organ... I just couldn't 'see' what it could be! Then, when I came back later, I saw straight away that it was an eye...
It's been a funny day...
I love that beautiful cat eye! Happy PPF.
ReplyDeleteSorry everyone, Google disabled my blog at some point today. I guess I was wrong about that Friday the 13th superstition! I have no idea what the problem is at this point but I did visit about 30 blogs before I was disabled. I'm just sick about out. I can be reached at robinpanzerart@hotmail.com until I'm back up. Thanks #2 Robin Panzer Art Studio 33

ReplyDeletexoEsther
I'm late, but I'm here! Yay!! I didn't want to miss PPF again.
ReplyDeleteI belong to the "penny" group... but not because I am superstitious but because of our German saying that goes kind like this "if you don't honor the penny you don't deserve the dollar" - well, I guess that is superstitious!?
Another great party!
ReplyDeleteIt's almost time for the next party but I wanted to be part of the Friday, the 13th party. So here I am...maybe after everyone's left :) Hope to be in time for the next party.
ReplyDeleteThis will be an all night long party for Friday the 13th
