Paint Party Friday: Week 47 Check In


Welcome to Week 47 of Paint Party Friday! Last week was another busy party with great paintings shown to us by all of you wonderful artists - new and returning!! It is such a joy to see you all here and creating!

In our last poll, we asked about brushes and what shape you prefer... Flats were the most popular choice but for most of us, it depends on what we are painting.  And no one seems to be a fan of fan brushes! Which makes us wonder - if you do like fan brushes - in what situation are they your go-to brush?

Thinking about brushes made us wonder about the paint you use on them... This poll may be a little tricky as there are brands that are available in some countries and not in others. (And some of you use only watercolors - not all of those brands are captured in the poll choices. Sorry about that...) Please let us know what your fave is if it is not included. Newer painters may not  know the difference between the paints. (EVA says - that's me!) Please help by telling us in the comments more about why you prefer your favourite (if you have one) to other brands.

    Me too. Golden is the best. It seems to glide on the canvas and dries very fast. I like Grumbacher and Rembrandt is as well. Happy PPF everyone and enjoy your weekend.

    I really love how PPF inspires me to paint at least once a week!!! And I almost always paint with goldens.

    I love Golden, but I have used Liquitex for many years, both are nice and buttery. and I get the most expensive colors with my 40% coupon from Michaels! ;o)

    I have favorite brands for different colors, so I use them all. I also like Blick brand for my art journals.

    I mostly use Windsor and Newton but I haven't heard of most of the others so maybe they're only in America? (or else I just haven't noticed them in my art supply shop!)

    I'm using Liquitex quite often at the moment, but also less expensive ones for applying a first layer on a canvas that will most likely get painted over. Sometimes it depends on the colour, as some colour differs according to brand. The most important thing to me is that they all mix and match.

    Depends how much I have in my pocketbook at the time. Sometimes I splurge but usually I go for whatever is on sale or do comparative shopping to find a deal! Happy PPF!

    As a new painter who is still experimenting all the time, I find it freeing to use the cheap craft paints and liquitex basics. I can slather paint all over without panicking that I'm wasting the good stuff. Plus I'm terrible at color mixing so I love to have the amazing range of color choices the craft paints come in.

    Hi Everyone!

    I paint everyday so i use whatever I have! I would love to try all kinds of course..depends what i can afford at the time..maybe in the future I will get to experiment more with new brands and colors...for now i create with what i have.

    I mostly use Wins&Newt...and Grumbacher has some fave colors for me like the sienna, red and payne's grey..I use those brands alot. and also Liquitex has great prices here...so they are easy to afford.

    I truly just have and use the basics..
    I am also very lucky..because my family and friends know my passion and will buy me paint as gifts..so every now and then i get to discover and play with a totally new color i never tried before.

    I also find different brands have different faves for me..

    I would love to try some of the ones mentioned above..everyone seems to like Golden..i have mot yet tried it. Maybe one day!

    I like W&N because it is reasonable in price and has both student and artist grade. I also love all the pastel shades from Gamblin. I am still in "get ready for big night",showing 68 of my oil still life paintings in a gallery opening tonight! So I thank all of you for your comments on my art these last two weeks. I will be able to comment on everyone's' work this weekend. Happy PPF!

    thankyou for hosting again this week, I use mostly Windsor and newton and grumbacher, I love Windsor Newtons Paynes gray and I also love Van Gogh's Gambouche.

    As far as Paint goes, I am a liguitex fan but have Rembrandt too, which has many vibrant colors. Most of all, I almost always mix my own colors. Just me!

    I bought a 48 colour pack of Liquitex Basics when I started painting and I haven't used them up yet! So I haven't tried anything else. I'm learning so much from your comments. Thanks!

    Hi Everyone and thanks again Lisa and Kristin for making this all possible. I use all different kinds of paints and tools to create my paintings. I guess because my art is sculpture on canvas I don't think about it. I grab a color I need and mix and match different types of paints. Hmmm no one said I was conventional. LOL

    I answered....it depends on what I am working on.

    Water soluble oil paints are now my favorite medium when I want to do something important. the color is so bright and true . it is easy to paint with using the special water mixable thinner if needed too ...why?

    low odour..no harsh chemicals needed...my hands are much happier, so easy to clean up the brushes and stuff. Winsor and Newton artisan brand is what I picked to try out but there are other brands.

    Whoa...so many brands that I've never even heard of! Well, not sure all of them are available in India....plus I've really not explored art supplies yet. If I keep getting inspired by PPF and you all, I'm sure I'll soon know much more about all this :)

    I have fallen in love with Golden! Unfortunately they are very tricky to get hold of in the UK. Have to get them mail order and they are darned expensive!

    I think I've got that same set of Liquitex Eva - what a great set of colours. Perfect for when you just can't be bothered to mix them yourself.

    Hey gang, I'm back :) I look forward to seeing everyone's work.

    I use a little of this and that, but I try to find out what paints other artists that I admire use and sometimes try them. I have to say from my experience, the Liquidtex cobalt blue is not the best. It's real grainy and I don't like that.

    I do like Windsor & newton but have quite a collection of art supplies. Can't resist art stores, fabric stores or book stores.....Happy Painting :)

    I use Winsor & Newton Water Mixable oils, and Jo Sonja or Atelier acrylics. We can't actually get Golden or some of the other brands in Australia. There's no art stores round where I live anyway, so I have to order online usually.
