Paint Party Friday... Week 10 Check-In - Distractions!

Welcome to Week 10 of Paint Party Friday! What a distraction last week was with all the Blogger problems. Thank you for your patience with the late start after our lost post (which still has never shown up) and for turning PPF into an all week-end party. Instead of the party having only a trickle of die-hard partyers, it was a strong and fun party with lots of newcomers - welcome to all of you!

The vast majority of you looked at disasters with a positive attitude and felt that they brought out your creativity, for some in the form of art but mostly creativity in other forms - finding new ways to cope and creating work-arounds. Blogger's problems were a distraction to us all and that is what this week's poll is about - What distractions keep you from painting?

Tell us more in the comments, we always love reading them! (Please be sure to take some time to read the comments - there have been profound revelations, wonderful ideas and great advice given in these comments.)

If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Linky, an explanation of how this tool works can be found on Week 1 and Week 2 check-ins. Please make sure to use your post URL address versus your blog URL address as there are many late visitors who get confused as to which post is for PPF when they arrive (after Friday) at your website.

Have lots of fun at the party!

  1. It's been a fun week, painting things I might not normally paint...paper dolls, camouflage Daleks etc! Can't wait to see what everyone else has been up to!

  2. hello everyone. for me it would be the computer that takes up so much of my time and my creative time. Even though I am creative on the computer, I get lost here for oh so long! Lovely PPF to one and all!

  3. Yes, all of the above distract me from painting. If I'm doing housework, there is no way I can just drop my work to go paint. I feel guilty if the house isn't clean when my husband gets home. Actually my house is dusty right now so that means tomorrow will be a clean day. Yikes!! I wanted to paint on canvas. Oh well, there is always another day. Happy 10th PPF to everyone and thanks Eva and Kristin.

  4. Oh I forgot to say that I love the clothes line. Clothes lines are a lot of fun and it really is fun to hang clean clothes. :()

  5. I get distracted with too many projects going on at once, not to mention the nice weather we are finally having. Happy Paint Party Friday everyone!

  6. So many things distract me! I have what my mum call's a butterfly mind - I start to do something and whoops there I go flitting off to the next thing! My dogs distract me the most - if they curl up on my knee (both at once sometimes!) on the sofa then I hate to 'disturb' them and end up sitting there watching tv when I should be painting! But once I get started on a pointy portrait I usually get sucked in for hours!

  7. My kids - hands down my kids distract, or should I say demand my attention when on occasion, I would like to remain in my Zen state of painting. BUT, I get great snuggles at the end of the day - and I won't get those forever! Painting will always be there when I need it! Happy PPF! Normally I wouldn't plug my blog BUT I have my first blog give away - which benefits you! Have fun blog hopping!

  10. Well, I was off at a painting class while all the Blogger stuff happened. I'm glad I missed it. I'd rather be painting instead! I'm sharing the paintings from that class today.

  13. Hi
This is my first time visiting PPF. Love the clothes line!
Being part of this has been a huge step for me, feeling really vulnerable. I know it is stupid!!!
Will have fun looking at the other entries.
    Thanks

  16. WOW, those were some hard choices to make! At times ALL of those things are distractions, but the only thing I have to plan around regularly is housework so I chose that one! Happy PPF!

  17. love the trompe l'oeil artwork, just beautiful!

I have to say all distractions keep me from painting because I can't be creative unless everything else has been cleared out of my mind and I can feel more relaxed. (those weeds are annoying aren't they?)

  19. Hello all of you Paint Party Friends! My biggest distration is the Internet!!! I realize I have to get off the computer and paint! Argh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. All of those things distract me, and most definitely the internet, but the biggest thing that keeps me from painting is fear of starting. And sometimes, reluctance to finish.
    Love the clothesline!

  21. Hello everyone! Yes, I have to say for me the biggest distraction is the internet. I'm very bad about wasting too much time at the computer. I have to make myself get up and leave it alone!

  22. WORK, WORK, WORK, out-of-the-home WORK! that is was takes me away from painting! I have to go there now, so no time to party until tonight. Welcome new peeps, PPF is awesome and hello old friends, will be visiting you all after WORK!

  23. Welcome @Lynne and @Laurie!! Great to have you join us!!

I guess we needed more categories - at least "internet" and "pets" as choices. But that's what makes the comments so great to read, we all get to know each other so much better.

  24. Hi Everyone and Happy Victoria day wkd all my fellow Canadians!

Hmmm..great question..I am smiling..because i actually have the opposite problem..!!

my compulsion to paint actually over-rides almost everything in my life..where i have to sometimes force myself out to do things and also get other things done!

My creative energies dominate my life..which i think it very good in some ways...but sometimes keeps me locked in my own world!

I look forward to visiting you all...happy creating!
    Hugs and Sparkles

  25. There is way too much that distracts me - the worst is housework because I hate that! Last Tuesday, however, when finally my mojo was back I chose painting over housework - always the better choice!!

  26. Hello everyone!
It's good to be back - being a mom of two young girls, a brown lab, a fluffy cat and a wife is VERY distracting. I wish i had more time in the day to paint...paint...paint!
I am sorry i missed the last few weeks...it's a very busy time of year. I am looking forward to visiting ALL of you today and throughout the weekend!

  27. I am thrilled to find this blog!! YAY! I can't wait to come and say hello to everyone. :)

  28. I'm with Victoria; painting is a compulsion! My house is usually messy and dusty because I'm at the paint table getting the picture out of my head and onto something else! The only other thing is all my online stuff; zazzle store, blog, facebook...

  29. Yikes! I put the incorrect link in my first post. (number 15 on the list) My new painting is number 50.) Happy PPF!

  31. I just love this painted mural!!!
I find the worst distraction in creating is when my "muse" leaves!! I can't create in any medium, just no inspirations that work!!!
It is frustrating when you want to create and just can't!

  32. I just want to thankyou both for Paint Party Friday,, I'm enjoying this so much.I'm a newbie,, just about a month and this is the first time I've found just what i was looking for in one place,, thanks again,

  33. Love the wash....especially when its already done...haha!

Basically all the above are distractions and I can cope quite efficiently but when health afflicts one of the family it becomes priority...unfortunately in the past year it has touched a few too many making life a bit of a challenge. Art is truly therapeutic! Thanks for the gathering...enjoying it very much! Sorry I'm a bit late, will visit everyone later tonight and throughout the weekend. Enjoy the party and life's little moments..... Annabelle >^..^<

  34. I get distracted by cLuTtEr! It zaps any focus I have. I try to go around the apartment and tame the chaos before I hit my workspace. :)

I'm a newbie to the party--this is such fun! *squee!* Merry Making everyone!

  35. Whoops sorry about the wrong link, thanks for letting me know (duh)!!!! Promise I'll do it right next time ;)

  36. ALMOST everything on that list can distract me.....but what distracts me the most is having so many ideas in my head and not being able to concentrate on ONE at a time!

  37. whew, I barely made it in time for PPF. I get distracted with so many things I could never name them all. Today almost turned into Plant Peddling Friday instead of Paint Party Friday!

I have so much fun visiting everyone all weekend and week long. This PPF is getting so many fantastic artists!

  38. Lately my biggest distractions have been headaches and working on our little farm. Now that it's getting nice, I'll have lots less time for painting because I'll need to be outside as much as possible getting things planted and weeded. And soon we'll have baby chicks (first thing Monday morning!) and baby ducks (later in the week!) to care for, too. The internet can be a huge distraction for me, too.

Happy PPF and happy weekend everyone!

  39. hello, I'm finally getting aroung to visiting some sites... my distraction is my FT job and my kids. With an autistic son, everything is so limited. But like KIKI and Mary I want to create ALL the time and have learned to do it in a few minutes here and a few minutes there... I never would have tried that before my son, Autism clarifies what's important to me. Having said that it sounds like I mean my painting is more important than him... which of course is not true, but he's made me realize I just need to grab whatever moments are free to be had , and not wait for the perfect chance!

  40. o what a great idea! hey y'all! i feel especially distracted right now because everything is finally starting to bloom and we just got a new puppy so needless to say, i steal a few minutes here and there but that seems to work really great for me because i don't tend to overwork my project that way...

  44. HA! I said ALL The Above in the poll because I am easily distracted but if I am being really honest its always relationships dillemas that throw me off my game.

This week it was my 10 year old. Oy. The drama. The Angst. But things should be back to normal whatever that is tomorrow. I am making myself create SOMETHING! LOL.
