Welcome to Week 12 of Paint Party Friday! (Can you believe we've been doing this for 3 months?!?) This continues to be one of our favorite places to be... We are so happy to see so many friends returning and we're thrilled to meet new painters each week!
Last week we discussed distractions and creative blocks and asked how you deal with them. There were many different ways we all get through them but it seems most of us try to keep the creativity going no matter what. Hooray for perseverance!
This week we're curious about your creative process. Some of you have talked about your process on your posts and others have shown us photos and videos! It is fascinating to see and experience other artists' work in progress and to discover the way that you create what you create. So we are curious about how you do what you do and especially how you start. Tell us more - in the poll, in the comments and in your posts!
If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Linky, an explanation of how this tool works can be found on Week 1 and Week 2 check-ins. Please make sure to use your post URL address versus your blog URL address as there are many late visitors who get confused as to which post is for PPF when they arrive (after Friday) at your website.
Have a fabulous time at the party!
Three Months! I can't believe that it has been that long. It is my favorite day of the week! I am still having some Blogger issues. Sometimes it works with Firefox and sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully I will get to comment more this week.
ReplyDeleteHappy Paint Party Friday!
I actually don't plan out anything. I just go to the canvas or journal and what happens, happens. I go with the flow. Wow, 3 months already? How time goes by when one is having fun. I really enjoy this and hope I can do it every week, but sometimes it is hard. Thanks again for everything.
ReplyDeleteGosh, three months? Well, I know I haven't been here from the beginning. It's a great motivation for me every week, but I'm sure there will be times when I cannot join. And that's okay, I guess.
ReplyDeleteUnless I'm participating in a challenge, I mostly paint intuitively.
ReplyDeleteLove to start with a doodle or idea but then it seems to take on a life of it's own...
ReplyDeleteI am SO SORRY, I posted the wrong link (number 9) & reposted the right link (number 12) to my post is there any way you can forgive me and delete the no 9 linky, so sorry guys!!!!!!! :(
Have to say I fly by the seat of my pants. That's the story of my life. Can't say I always like it either. I am in need of a life organizer, haha! Is there even such a thing? Too many things to do, too little time. Ah... such is life.
ReplyDeleteI usually have an idea pop into my head and take it from there trying to capture it on paper or canvas. That's when the distance between imagination and reality can cause frustrations!
ReplyDeleteHi Ladies, Friday again! I like to paint or create as the mood takes me. I always have crayons and a sketch book with me, and I love being inspired by dreams, which I have painted again this week. Valerie
ReplyDeleteWhenever I have projects in my head .... I pick up notes or ideas of any magazine or picture I see. PPF happy to everyone and a hug.
ReplyDeleteI always paint with something in mind before......I picture it in my head and go with it.......
ReplyDeleteI do a good many figurative paintings and I instinctively know when I see a good composition visually. So my camera is my first tool but it is only a tool. Sometimes, I tweak a composition with photos in Photoshop or scissors and images and design how I want it to play out.
ReplyDeleteThen I draw, and start painting the background. The background helps me to get the feel of the painting. I start lightly and build color. At some point, I no longer play off the photos but rather, instinctively and "feel" my way around.
Thanks, for Paint Party Fridays!
I'm inspired by pretty or unusual things around me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't believe it's been 3 months already!
ReplyDeleteI seem to fly by the seat of my pants for most of my art. Inspiration comes, an image comes to life in my head and then it's off to the drawing table or easel to see what I come up with. Loving this time of each week. Always look forward to everyone's PPFs!
ReplyDeleteI start with a plan in mind but many times I will change it up as I go along. Sometimes it will be drastically different in the end than I imagined but I do need that picture in my head to get me started.
ReplyDeleteI was out of town and missed last week's PPF so I'm really looking forward to seeing all the new art this week!
Happy PPF Everyone!
ReplyDeleteHappy 3-month anniversay everyone..cheers..!
Creation owns me...i get called to the canvas..and something ignites..and I just paint..not knowing where i am going..and i love that! I am like a willing passenger to the creative-unknown!
Other times..whether i am asleep( so Not convenient!) or busy doing something..an image wil keep pulsing in my head..or a feeling..and it wont go away..it drives me bonkers..and wont' leave me alone until i start paitning it..if not..it won't stop ha ha..so it is kinda like a beautiful-haunting of sorts!
but for me..i just feel compelled to create..I run to my canvas..grab a brush and that's it..i am captured! and yes..I don't get out much ha ha! but i love it...and it makes me feel alive!
so that's it!
Happy wkd everyone! I look forwrad to visiting...and i hope my comments go through /blog problems get worked out..i am still having some off/on issues. and the pages scroll and move while I am visiting!
Bye for now
Victoria
I'm a great fan of thumbnail sketches, which I then grid out and blow up to the desired size. It really helps to capture the aura that is present in the sketchbook. I just wish I could convince my students that this is the way to go!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty cerebral which is a good thing and a bad thing. Sometimes its a hindrance when painting or drawing because I really need to get out of my head and just take action.
ReplyDeleteI've probably taken all the approaches listed in the voting box but most often I work an idea out in my head and then start messing around with it on paper etc... Sometimes I wind up where I thought I would sometimes somewhere else entirely. :o)
xo
Glad I found you! I've been trying to find some other painting sites!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a "seat of the pants" kinda gal. I have many started pieces that don't "speak" to me after initial washes or colors are laid down so I set them aside and start something new. Even when I have a specific idea, it rarely turns out as I plan - sometimes I just need to stop tweaking!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see everyone's art today.
Congratulations on your 3 month anniversary! I go with the flow...I wouldn't say by the seat of my pants..but I have a color or pattern in mind and then I get to work from there.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to visit everyone this week. Happy weekend!
Yay for Eva and Kristin! This blog party was the best idea ever! Happy wkd...I will visit everyone at some point, It's performance wkd for my dancer, so I will squeeze visits in when I can. xox
ReplyDeleteI usually picture something in my mind and then just put it to canvas or paper,,this is my second PPF and its great,, i wish I had started blogging long ago,, 5 weeks in and its been great
ReplyDeleteI usually get an idea in my head from a word or thought....then i put the pencil on the paper and just DRAW!!! Then I use watercolor to finish. When i use my copic markers, i usually sdraw and color at the same time, so many ideas...so little time! have a great friday - i do try to get to everyone...usually giv myself the weekend though! :)
ReplyDeleteHas it been THAT long?? I hope we stay together and party on forever!! :)
ReplyDeleteI usually come up with ideas from books, billboards, song lyrics...anything really. Sometimes it's just someone who pops into my mind who I either admire or find fascinating in some way.
It has to be fun for me in some way or I won't commit to the painting/drawing. I used to force myself to sketch things to LEARN only and I couldn't complete any of my drawings that way. FUN has to be a part of it.
Again, thanks for hosting and keeping this wonderful (and FUN) party going!!
oh it always depends. Usually I have some idea of what I'm doing. At least what the subject is... but not always!
ReplyDeleteHappy 3 month anniversary! This has been a wonderful motivator for me and I've met great friends! I usually don't have a preconceived idea when I start to paint. I'll just lay some color down and see where it goes. I work in my sketchbook every night and sometimes ideas pop into my head then. Music and poetry are a big inspiration for me and I do get a lot of my ideas from those!
ReplyDeleteusually i have something planned out in my head, but i am trying to learn to listen to my muse and heart and just PAINT!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Paint Party Friday everyone!
Sometimes I have an idea but usually it takes a completely different turn! For me it's more about the color I use! I am so passionate about color it's all about the blend of color! It's always a nice surprise how things turn out! I am inspired by whimsy and other artists who use color vividly!
ReplyDeleteInspiration knows no rules so I paint whatever comes to me in the moment I am in. Thanks again to Kristen and eva for putting together this fun party...:-)
ReplyDeleteEva and Kristin,
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming up with the idea and hosting Paint Party Friday. It has become a highlight of my Fridays! Happy PPF!
I usually have a conceptual idea, but unless there is strange anatomy I don't plan out how it will look. Sometimes I do a pencil sketch on the canvas.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF!
I have gotten to a few of you, but blogger is not letting me comment on LOTS of blogs and not letting me even see the blog when I click to get it!!!
ReplyDeleteAs far as planning, I paint what I like and often a plan will go off in another direction!!!
OHMYHECK!!! Netty, Gloria & MaddyRose ... YOU are brilliant. Unclicking the 'keep me signed in box' worked!!! I'm Back!!! Thank YOU soooo much ...
ReplyDeleteHappy 3 months of PPF! No paint this week, just prep. I capture a piece and eventually "it speaks to me" and I know which way to go. I pretty much do all of the above, sometimes it works right away and sometimes it has to be reworked. I was having problems leaving comments until Netty, Gloria and Maddy Rose fixed me ... so if you haven't heard from me, it's not because I haven't tried, but I'm back now! Thx Eva and Kristin for PPF! No work this weekend ... so hopefully ... PAINT! off to visit my PPF peeps! :)
I use a lot of different methods. Mostly I just let whatever comes up come out.
ReplyDeleteIn my still life oil paintings I sort of get a background going and block in areas to get a flow of the piece. Then I start working on each block for awhile.
Mixed media is different because I usually let the pens, paints, papers, paste etc. lead.
Happy PPF and Happy 3 months! I'm so glad to have been a part of the celebration almost every week so far! Great motivator to keep me painting!
ReplyDeleteI do a little bit of everything. Usually with watercolors I do a sketch first (and usually I'm working from a real-life model... plants and flowers), but this week I tried something a little different, too. With acrylics I usually have less of a plan. An image in my head sometimes, but usually the end result is very different than that initial inspiration.
Fun PPF again! I entered a project I am working on this week. I work in many different media and in many different ways for each. Have a wonderful week you guys!
ReplyDeleteHi ;o) I always go to Shelle's, Crystal's, Victoria's and Marlene's blog on PPF's and all of them have asked for me to join ;o) So here I am ;o) I think MagicLoveCrow, has showed up 3 times on the linky thing? I don't know why, sorry, but there is only one of me ;o) LOL! Have a great day, Stacy
ReplyDeletefor me it's usually improvisational, but I often rely on either a prompt from a challenge, or a theme for a demo I am sharing on a webcast.
ReplyDeleteI love this place!!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes the best paintings are unplanned!!!
I finally know how to let go of a painting that is not working!!!
I love trying new techniques and right now I am having fun with digital painting!
