Paint Party Friday: Week 3 Check-In

Welcome to the third week of Paint Party Friday! It's wonderful to have you visit, check-in and share your painting efforts with us, whether you are a returning player or new to the party!

Our poll last week showed that for most of you, there are either multiple reasons why you paint or you can't imagine not painting! In creating the poll however, it seems we missed one or two very important categories (though "because the voices tell me to" might have captured a bit of it).  In the comments, some of you pointed out that you paint to become more connected to the divine. Others spoke of painting as therapy (Kat W's late check-in entry was a very powerful example of art therapy) and how it has helped them. Isn't it wonderful that painting is not only fun, but so good for us in so many ways?

This week we're wondering about where you like to paint....

(If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Linky, an explanation of how this tool works can be found on Week 1 and Week 2 check-ins.)

We've added something new! One of the things we had hoped would happen with PPF is that conversations would start to occur in the comments section. However that meant you would have had to come back regularly to see what everyone was saying. Challenging, especially on a week day when lots of us are at work. We have added (successfully we hope - cross our fingers) a "Subscribe to Comments by email" button at the bottom. That should make it easier to keep track of the comversations and come back and jump in! (Thanks Gloria for trying last week - sorry that General Hospital won out!)

Have fun at the party! We're so happy you could come to play and we're looking forward to seeing everyone's painting efforts this week. You are such awesome artists!!

P.S. We have a number of international players. Yay!! When you visit them and see another language, just hit the "translate" button at the top and Google will translate their blog for you.

  1. Oh, another week! Yay! I love that the number of participants keeps growing. And that I'm actually keeping up with my daily painting. Really looking forward to visiting the blogs this week. I'm finding that it's taking a couple of days to get to everybody but that just makes the fun last longer! ;)

  2. I'm having a lot of fun with PPF. Soon I plan on working with clay for a project and I may have it for one of the PPF's. I agree with Pam, in that it does take time to visit everyone, but wow how it is growing. Congrats Kristin and Eva, job well done.

  3. Ditto for me...it takes time to visit everyone. I don't always have time on Friday, so I check in over the weekend. Great idea to subscribe to comments via email.

  4. Hello all, glad to be here again. Yes, it may take a bit of time to visit everyone with the lists growing who are joining in. To answer the question above. I don't have a studio. That is a goal down the road, but I have a space in our guest bedroom where we put a table and we put two book cases side by side *one had a cabinet below to store supplies. Now I don't have to haul to the kitchen unless I want to.

  9. Great to be here and thinking art once again. I'm really enjoying this challenge, it is inspiring me to paint more, something I feel I need to practise as I've never really been that good at it.

It is great to have the check in as something to look forward to and motivate towards. And have some great company along the way! :D

  10. Week three and growing with international artists as well. That's fantastic! You're putting on quite a show every week, girls, and I'm happy to be here and participating once again.

I like to paint in a corner of the piano room (right next to the piano actually) where I put my painting supplies on the piano bench and get right to work. It's by a large picture window with a view of the palms and oak tree. It's a very relaxing spot. I like to put on 80s music while I paint as well (and sing along sometimes...when nobody's listening).

Happy Paint Party Friday to everyone! Can't wait to see all the latest artwork!

  11. Happy PPF- it's so lovely to see the numbers growing! I too like to take a couple of days to visit everyone and take my time while doing so!
I'm one of the folks who clicked "other"- I do paint in the dining room- but I have a desk in there just for me to paint on.

I am so enjoying the paint party - it's given good reason to use my watercolors more! I was putting them tothe side because i fell in love with my coopic markers, but now i spend part of the week with markers and part with wartercolor!
    Thanks girls!

  15. Good morning! I have so enjyed PPF and seeing everyone's work. It is all amazing. I do paint in my studio and paint almost every day. I figure the more I paint, the more I will learn, and the better I will get. My studio is my office, my sewing room and my painting studio. It is a small room, but it works. I will be painting plein air on Apr. 29th, my first artist retreat. I am very excited about it. I hope to take lots of photos to share with all of you. I am out of town today, but will be visiting everyone's blog over the weekend. Until then, hope you are all having good weather and are having fun painting! Savor the Day!!

  18. Good Morning Lovelies! I love the poll this week. I just blogged about it on Wednesday. I have a wonderful artspace (I don't call it a studio because it is in a room that is shared by the kids playroom) but it is in the basement with no windows. So I find myself sitting at the dining room table where I get lots of beautiful sun. See you girls later, must go to the day job!

    Happy Paint Party Friday.

  19. Good Morning, it is only 5:30 am here and I am already 26 on the list, wow this is really growing and you all are really early birds from my point of view. This is proving to be one of my favorite blogs the other being Sunday Sketches. They keep me motivated to create and not just sit and do nothing. Thank you to our hosts for giving us this space. I to am one of those that takes a while to get around to everyone but I do try and visit everyone that participates even if it takes coming back several times. Off to visit now....

And even more thrilled it is helping you keep up with your daily or regular painting and inspire you to do more!

    @NaNa and @Brown Paper Bunny - Welcome!

@ileana - You just gave me an idea for next week's poll! Thanks!!

  22. The cup and beans are great and will look fantastic hung in a kitchen, did you paint them for yourself?
Love the journal page, the coloring will lend itself well to writing if that is what you choose to do.

PS: Try painting the Stamen white first and then your color choice, maybe leave a little white showing on the edge as a highlight.

  23. Thanks for hosting another PPF! Having loads of fun sharing and visiting painters out there:)

  24. Oops! I forgot to say where I paint! Even though I have a whole bright and airy spare bedroom turned studio at my disposal, I paint on the floor of my basement in the most uncomfortable looking set-up imaginable. My legs scrunched under the coffee table, my elbow banging up against the legs of the chair, my paints scattered all over the floor and occasionally buried in the sofa cushions. I don't get it, but there it is. I even have a very nice easel I never use :)

  25. Wow - We're so happy with all of the wonderful paintings that are being created and shared!

Lots of very fun comments today - It's so great to learn more about each of you!!!

I use my studio, the dining room, the living room, sometimes the bedroom, and I love painting on the porch... I definitely spread out! (My poor family! ha!) I think the only place that's safe is the bathroom... although sometimes I stretch watercolor paper in the tub, so I guess no place is safe! hahaha

I'm off to visit your blogs - Wheeeee!!!!

  31. Happy Friday! I love to paint in my studio, which has an incredible view of the mountains and lots of light. However, the ultimate studio is outside in nature, where all of the elements come together to contribute their energy to the painting. That's where I finished this weeks painting...
Wishing you all an inspired weekend :)

  34. Cor blimey after a slow week today I've been busy creating.

I've painted, glued and decorated lots of blank wooden shapes and turned them into embellishments for cards or brooches. And I've finally got a page up about my newsletter and weekly creative inspiration prompts. Oh and painted a blog button. I'm ready for bed now. Lol. But I want to visit all the PPF blogs.

Thanks for helping me get motivated today Kristin & EVA.

  37. Yay my first week participating! So excited, such a great idea. I just added a little watercolor, wish I had had more time to do something more elaborate, but I like how it turned out just the same. Great work everyone! : )

  38. I have painted in the kitchen, dining room, bedroom, at metaphysical shops, at art/craft shows, at my mom's house, on my lanai (Florida lingo for screened porch, lol!).
My favorite current spot is to paint on a tv tray while sitting on the living room sofa, computer to my side, tv in front, 5 parrots in back of me =)The afternoon sun flooding all the windows makes it a very inviting place to create. For me, its all about the light. I rarely paint once the sun has set. Although, I do have 5 parrots to feed and put to bed in the eves. I always have good intentions of sketching once the birds are covered, but I haven't followed through much with that.

  39. Hi Eva and Kristen! The week flew by...I paint all scrunched up on the floor, like Charlie...it's crazy! And crazy-hard to get up after a few hours! I am so enjoying visiting all of the talented artists, although sometimes it takes me until Sunday.
    Happy weekend :)

  40. Hi everybody! I'm so glad to be back for another Friday, this time with some paintings! Having Paint Party Friday has been a great motivator to get painting, even if I only ended up being able to today. Thanks, again Kristin and Eva! It's so exciting how it's taken off.

Reading everyone's comments about where they're painting has been an inspiration in itself. I checked "other." I have a somewhat unusual situation because right now I'm living with my mom and just about all of our farmhouse is taken over with various projects. My current painting areas are on the floor of my bedroom for acrylics and at a desk in the upstairs hallway/sitting area for watercolors. After reading about so many people liking to paint outdoors, I'm really looking forward to warmer weather so I can try it.

I'm off to see what everyone's been up to this week. I agree, that it does take a while to get through all the posts, but I really love to see what everyone is creating.

  43. Question: Is it just my computer or are some of the links covered by the picture? It was fine earlier but not numbers 33-37 are covered by the Paint Party sign picture???

    ReplyDelete
  44. By the way Kristin and Eva...I wanted to say that I really like the Paint Party Friday sign outside in the yard as it is. The colors are great and makes someone want to be there in that yard.

  45. @Marlene - it looks right from here but the internet did weird things on me several times today so hopefully that's all it is and it will pass. Right now in Chrome and IE it is fine.

@Gloria - Thank you! That is my deck and where I hope to paint more this year (when the remaining snow disappears). Kristin took a painting I did outside one autumn for my daughter's emerald green room and she electronically played with it and added the lettering. It would be so nice to paint out there again!

  46. I made it... a day late.. but never mind at least I got here... Brilliant to see so many talented artists... I will try and pop over and see what everyone has been doing.. and leave a comment to say I've popped by but time just runs out....

  47. Dear Kristin & EVA

How ungrateful must you think I am? After signing up yesterday it was quite late when I came back to read & visit. Its only today when I read this post and comments properly that I saw your very kind mention. It meant a lot to me as I was having a bad case of self doubt just now. Thank you, it came at the right time.

For practical/necessity reasons I do most of my painting & crafting at our kitchen table. But when the walk down is manageable (health & weather wise) I love to use my dilapidated writing hut at the bottom of the garden. I can't manage to take huge amounts of supplies up & down but I keep plenty of writing stuff down there, take my water colour tray, collage papers and easy to carry items. I love to write & doodle down there when I can. I also create in bed - my bedclothes have suffered as a result - its a kind of hideaway when the kids are playing downstairs and/or I need rest but want to doodle/write/cut out. In the summer the kids & I like to paint out doors. I also like cafes and the local woods for writing, doodling, taking photos and dreaming :-)

That's enough rambling on. My two babes are wanting my attention. I shall return in a bit to carry on reading & visiting (better late than never).

  49. lol @ Heather....ahh painting at Starbucks, that would be lovely...just keep the caramel machiatos comin!

I'm late this week (oops) but will be checking out all your works of art over the weekend!

I'm about to do a blog post about where I paint. I (ok, that's a lie, it was my boyfriend) just made a desk out of cedar boards and sawhorse legs from Ikea. It's in a corner of my living room where I get the best light that a basement apartment can get :(

  55. Oh wow! I wish I would have found about this sooner! This is AWESOME! Anyways for some reason I can not make a post on blogger so here is a painting I have been working on today.

    http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc48/shaylafish/Snapshot_20110414_1.jpg

I have been practicing with a technique called "spit shading," which is used to create that "tattoo" effect.

I like to paint at my desk in my room...with all the curtains and windows open to let the light in from outside (my eye sight is bad and needs lots of light)

Anyways this is a really cool thing you guys are doing. I plan on participating LOTS.
