Welcome one and all to Week 36 of Paint Party Friday! Great to have previous PPFers returning and new ones joining in the painting fun!
Last week we talked about how you start a painting. Of course the answer depending on the media to some extent. The watercolour painters had no need to prime. For oil and acrylics, gesso and pre-primed canvases were most popular answers though many of you had tried all the ideas the poll suggested and more! Some of you even showed us your techniques in your posts. Fabulous!!
This week we are going to go to the other end of the process and ask how you finish up your paintings.
Please make sure to use your post URL address NOT your blog home page URL address as there are many late visitors who get confused as to which post is for PPF when they arrive (after Friday) at your website. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Linky, an explanation of how this tool works can be found on Week 1 and Week 2 Check-ins.
Have a great time at the party!
So great to be at PPF!
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting, Eva and Kristin!

Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the party - and I LOVE the poll questions and answers each week - I always learn something new.
Have a great weekend,
Kristin xo
Happy PPF. I actually love using Damar finish on my paintings. I did a still life of that specific can once. I also use other glosses and sometimes none. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
ReplyDeleteI've been absent for a little while so I'm glad to have been able to do some painting this week! Happy Paint Party Friday everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt's me again. If you could take number 7 off, I would appreciate it. I pasted in the wrong thing. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteI clicked on "all of the above" but I don't really do the wax. Everything else I have done, and I do like one more than the other, depending on the piece.
ReplyDeleteI'm so tired right now. But for PPF, I'll always found something to blog about!
ReplyDeleteHave a great PPF you all! Valerie
ReplyDeletePour la finition de mes peintures, j'utilise toujours un vernis-colle.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
I've only finished one painting as yet and I sealed it with Modge Podge Gloss. Thanks for being great hosts, Annette x
ReplyDeleteHello again, today's survey is very interesting, I have colleagues who do not use any varnish, but this implies that the work deteriorates and changes color over time, but the artist is always decides on his work. Greetings to all especialmenbte Kristin and Eva delivery.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you sealed a painting! Nice to learn about this...thought maybe it was just for oil pastels.
ReplyDeleteHappy PPF Everyone!
ReplyDeleteWishing you all a fabulous wdk!
Elisa Choi..Hi..I tried to leave a comment for you ..but it wouildn't go through..loved your post, enjoyed it very much!
I would love to know more about finishing/sealing a painting properly..i am self-taught and have always wanted to know how to best protect them. I know there is lots of info and producst out there..but i find it more intriguing and helpful to hear personal experience from a fellow artist !
Great topic!
Thanks always for hosting Eva and Kristin!

Happy PPF!! Always great topics to discuss! Sometimes I use modpodge but if I am using my photographs in my pieces I use a matte UV protectant spray. Looking forward to learning what others use. Thanks again Eva and Kristin!! :)
ReplyDeletethankyou for hosting again, I finish most of my work with clear satin spray and I also love bees wax
ReplyDeleteThanks for an awesome linkup! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteI always seal all art work with spray satin varnish. I have also just brushed on stain and varnish on my wooden stuff that is painted with acrylics. Some of my stuff has to stand up to being outdoor decor. i purchased the water soluble paint and I love how fast it dries and can be sealed faster than oil paint which can take so many months to dry, before you can seal it properly.

Happy paint party friday!
ReplyDeleteI like coating mine in mod podge as a sealant/finish
matte- if its a journal page because it wont stick
but otherwise- glossy!
Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI like to you Dorland's wax but if I'm worried about smearing I use grumbacher matte varnish spray.
:)
I do oils and pastels. I rarely spray my pastels, but recently had occasion too when I decided to go over one area and didn't want to get mud. As for my oils, I use Copal on them after they are dry to make the darks recapture their depth and liven up the other colors, too.
ReplyDeletehappy PFF! i enjoy the surveys and learn a lot about what others do. thanks for hosting the party!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to arty weekends starting with Paint Party Friday! Because I finish my mixed media paintings with charcoal, I have to spray with a sealer. My little rainy day girls won't melt in the downpour this week because they're protected by Krylon Matte Varnish.
ReplyDeleteCan't play along until after Thanksgiving but would like to invite you all to enter a giveaway I am having so stop by for info! May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. xo Theresa
