Paint Party Friday: Week 34 Check-in

Welcome to Week 34 of Paint Party Friday! Last week over 90 of you wonderful painters dropped by, in search of chocolate and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and especially to share your panitings and visit other partyers. Wow!

This week we thought we'd carry on the previous week's conversation about buying art. We're wondering why you buy the art you buy?

Please make sure to use your post URL address NOT your blog home page URL address as there are many late visitors who get confused as to which post is for PPF when they arrive (after Friday) at your website. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Linky, an explanation of how this tool works can be found on Week 1 and Week 2 Check-ins.

Hope you have a great time at the party!

  2. I agree with Mary. Thank you ladies for hosting this. I look forward to this weekly party.

I buy art for all the reasons that you posted. I have been obsessed with art for as long I remember. I've been collecting art forever.

  3. I have never bought art, mostly because I don't have the money to do so and party because My grandmother and father were artist (both have passed away) and combined with their art work and mine, I don't have enough wall space.
But when I have chosen art work as gifts from my grandmother and father, I've chosen pieces that speak to me.

  4. I love buying art but I have a very limited budget, so I am pretty happy reinvesting, eg if I sell something I buy something (not to often LOL) but I have bought many aceos for my daughters, they are affordable & living in Australia the postage costs aren't too much because of their size. I do fall in love with art & I have never judged how good a piece is judged on 'price'... Van Gogh painted the same whether he was giving them away or selling them, the paintings are the same paintings, who put's the 'worth' on art, if someone gives away art does that mean it's worthless? I think it's means it's priceless :)

  5. Hi and thanks for another wonderful party. I always enjoy my time here visiting other artists. I have so many friends/blogger/artists now, that I would probably purchase directly from them or their Etsy shop. Same as Jenn...I would whenever I could splurge the extra $$ :-)

  6. I actually am really interested in buying something that speaks to me, and supporting artists. I only wish I could buy more. Lately, I have been doing many artist trades.

Thanks for hosting PPF! I love it.

  7. I agree with all the comments above - the most I've spent on a piece of art was actually a print of a Norman Rockwell (one of his covers for the Saturday Evening Post) purely because I love that era and his style. Otherwise, the art I've bought has been from local artists when I've been on holiday somewhere - pieces that mean something and evoke memories.

  10. I love to come to Paint Party Friday! I have so enjoyed visiting all the other partiers this last week and I wanted to share a painter whose work I recently aquired because it does touch my soul and makes me unreasonably happy. I found one of her paintings in a gallery and made her an offer and guess what? She GAVE it to me. She paints gorgeous florals and abstracts and figures, using bold color and energetic strokes, and it turns out that she's just as warm and spontaneous and beautiful as her paintings. So I decided to have a party for her and invite you! I hope you will all treat yourselves this week by coming over to my place and meeting my lovely new friend, Carol Christie.

  11. There are only two reasons to buy art or me: One is that it touches me and inspires me to do better in my own desire to create and it's present in my home or studio is one I will look at and study for long introspective moments. Two is that the artist is one I know if not personally in some way touches me as a person or artist and I want to support him.

  12. The art that hangs in our home was purchased primarily because it moved us - but when I think about it, we have a connection to either the artist or the place we bought it for each piece, which brings deeper meaning and appreciation. As I get to know more artists I'm wishing I could buy art from every single one of them.

  20. I like to buy art from artists I know because it makes it that much more personal when I look at the painting.

Thank you for hosting PPF. I'm a late-comer but I'm really enjoying it.

  23. This has been another busy week, but I got a little painting in... a little. So glad I did, it's always been a great way to relax. Love old paintings as well as new. When I graduated from nursing school, my mom went with me to the antique store to look for something to commemorate the milestone... and I chose a (large) original painting. It was done by a local artist ~ a winter scene of a nearby covered bridge that has since been torn down. Love that painting!! Happy PPF :)

  24. When I buy art it's usually something that I wouldn't be able to do myself or is related to how I'm decorating a room. Look forward to popping by to see what everyone is up to...especially since I missed last weeks linkup!

  30. All the art that I have is treasured. I have either bought it instinctively or have inherited it along with the stories that go with it. Each piece is very meaningful.

  31. I'm getting alot of Open ID errors this week so I'm having trouble commenting on a lot of the blogs. I'm trying! The ones that allow Name/URL comments are no problem, at least.
